Case studiesRetail alternatives platform

A stalled launch, salvaged — into a platform worth $50M.

A retail alternative-investment platform had been stuck for three years on broken data. OpenFinance rebuilt the histories, secured the APIs, and got it live — on the way to more than 1.25 million accounts.

The engagementRetail Alternatives

A startup inside a large firm, launching under pressure — on data that wouldn't cooperate.

The client is a fintech platform for new fund subscriptions, account maintenance, and performance reporting of non-traded alternative assets — a "startup" within a global private-equity manager, launching under extreme pressure from its parent. The project had stalled for more than three years on insufficient data access, incomplete investment histories, and repeated false starts on secure data availability.

OpenFinance dropped in its core data layer and Adviser API, then wrote custom procedures to rebuild the missing account histories — calculating since-inception performance to GIPS standards — and got the platform to production.

The challenge

  • Deliver daily valuations and monthly performance, ready to show end-investors.
  • Provide secure API access with proper entitlement controls.
  • Rebuild incomplete investment histories missing across the book.
  • Give a team that lacked the resources to launch a way to actually ship.

The approach

  • OpenFinance core data layer plus the existing Adviser API, deployed to standard.
  • Custom automated procedures to reconstruct history to GIPS since-inception performance.
  • Reusable performance APIs tuned to make the client's application fast.
  • A tight, consultative process that helped the client launch on every front.

The launch accelerated to production and kept going: the client signed multiple additional fund sponsors and broker-dealers beyond its parent, and expanded into more sophisticated analytics built on the platform.
