On June 16, 2026, Northfield Information Services opened the doors of Northfield Labs — its new research and development center in the heart of Harvard Square — and marked the occasion the way the firm intends to use the space: with a full afternoon of open research. The Summer Research Symposium drew clients, academics, and colleagues from across the investment community to 1374 Massachusetts Avenue for four talks, a shared lunch, and a reception to close the day.

Northfield Labs is that commitment made physical. The firm built it to grow relationships, ideas, information, and technology at the confluence of serious academic research, commerce, and leadership. The symposium also introduced guests to the wider ALPHA family — OpenFinance and Market76 — carrying forward Northfield's founding vision of bringing the best of science, information, and technology to bear on a single purpose: helping investors make better decisions.

The program

The afternoon opened with Northfield president Dan diBartolomeo on Implied Economic Forecasts, reading the macroeconomic views embedded in asset prices. David Turkington of State Street Associates followed with Hedging Inflation in Equities, presenting a framework for scoring the inflation robustness of portfolios. Professor Daniel Graves of Harvard University spoke on Attention and Retail Investor Alignment, and Professor Mehdi Khorami of Eastern Connecticut State University closed the sessions with Stability of the Information Ratio Under Volatility Equivalence.

The talks ran the range Northfield Labs was built to hold — from a sitting practitioner's read on the economy to fresh academic work on investor behavior and estimation. Between sessions, conversation continued over coffee, lunch, and, at day's end, a reception of wine and refreshments.

June 16 was the first of what Northfield intends to make a recurring gathering. In the years that follow, the firm looks forward to hosting friends at Northfield Labs and pushing the boundaries of risk analysis and decision science — together, in the open, and at the highest level.
